The Extinct Breed of "HARKARA'S"

I always imagined how the people in earlier times used to communicate when there was no phones, no press, no postman or not even the literate people to write any messages. On a one fine day, when I was overseeing my son playing with his friend in the courtyard, I saw that one of the children would run from one tree to the other and would say something to that tree as if the tree is listening to them and would reply by waving his strong and long offshoots. I suddenly realized and remembered the breed of Harkara's. These Harkara's were from the peasant society and worked in the fiefdom of his Landlords. They would run along with the message of his master from one check post to another. At the next check post they would deliver the message to the other Harkara and other information about the recipient. They carried the message from one post to the other as if they were in a relay-run. There is no doubt that they were sturdy and masculine. They used to run for atleast three 'kos'(a measure of distance of ancient India) at a stretch. I would like to describe them as very athletic and professional in their work. The breed of Harkara's has vanished with the time and vanished the breed of long distance runners who would have definitely brought us some gold medals at the international sports events.
