WORLD’S HIGHEST RAIL BRIDGE

The world’s longest bridge is under construction in Kashmir valley. It is 5 times the height of Kutub Minar and 35 times the height of Eiffel Tower. It is being constructed on Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir State of Union of India. It is a part of an ambitious Udampur – Srinagar – Baramula rail link project of 73 km section of Katra – Dharam division and is 65 km away from Katra on Chenab river at a height of 359 Mtrs. Konkan Rail Corporation who is pioneer in constructing 179  big bridges in Konkan area is tasked with this project. 1315 mtr long Chenab river bridge will consume 10 billion  tonnes of Iron and would become an engineering marvel.
As of now, the worlds highest rail bridge is in Tarn, France. The height of the highest pillar of the bridge is 340 mtrs but the trains travels at the height of 300 mtrs only.
Keeping in view, that the wind speed at 359 mtrs would go upto 266 Km/ hr, it has been decided that the rails would not ply on the bridge if the wind speed crosses 90 Km/hr mark. Sophisticated signaling process has been adopted such that if the wind speed crosses the threshold speed, the train would be signaled to stop or would not allow to continue. Seeing the tough terrain in Himalayan ranges, bridge will be painted with a special paint which would not deteriorate even after 35 years or would not fade away. Adverse climate would not have any effect over it.
